SPRING CREEK SUPER SERIES, ROUND #6
By Team-Kixsquest | Thu Jul 17, 2008 at 03:49:37 PM EST
By Mary Maillette
Spring Creek MX Park hosted round six of their Super Series, July 13th. A storm blew through Friday night, but Saturday morning was sunny, windy and beautiful racing weather. The Spring Creek crew got working on the track getting it in tip top shape for practice. There must have been moto-fever in the air because more and more racers pulled in throughout Saturday making for a great turnout Sunday. Over 600 racers registered to compete and enjoy the Spring Creek facility.
If you've never attended the Saturday evening worship service, check it out! The music, by The Spring Creek Praise Band, was great and Pastor Kristine Marshall did such a nice job. Then, treats were provided after which were a big hit with the racers! And, if you are a mom, then I know you appreciated the arts and crafts that were provided this weekend. The theme was a Pirate Party. My kids decorated their own pirate bandanas, eye patches and swords and came home with lots of treats! Some of the other kid friendly activities were a Treasure Hunt, Smores and Cupcake Decorating and Candy Bar Bingo. Spring Creek really celebrates the family aspect of motocross by hosting so many kid and family friendly activities. Thanks to the whole crew at Spring Creek who make these great race weekends possible!
So, here are a few race highlights...

A Dose of Inspiration from Ricky Carmichael
By Team-Kixsquest | Wed Jul 09, 2008 at 10:07:09 AM EST
It's mid race season and sometimes it can be hard to stay inspired, to work hard and stay focused on your goals. So, when we found this video clip of Ricky Carmichael, it charged us up and we are hoping it will do the same for you. Check it out on the Video Page. This amazing athlete defines "Work Ethic". The video is also a reminder that dreams don't just show up at the front door, they require an incredible amount of hard work.
Sometimes it may seem like you keep hitting a brick wall and you can't break through it, but NEVER GIVE UP! I like the quote from Randy Pausch, "Brick walls are there for a reason. They give us a chance to show how badly we want something."
Without a dobut, Ricky Carmichael wanted to be a champion.
Race Highlights @ Spring Creek, Millville, Minnesota

Sunday, June 29th was a perfect day for racing. Sunny, breezy and 70's. The track was perfect after some much needed rain on Saturday.
Meanwhile, here are some highlights from a few of the mini classes.
65cc (Ages 10-11)
These kids do a three lap race out on the big track and do a great job! In moto one, Jerry Robin hit the holeshot turn first with Blake Halstead, Jake Stewart and Nolan Heppner right behind him. Robin took the win with Stewart finishing second and Halstead third. Kaleb Dekeyrel raced up the pack on his Cobra taking a fourth place finish in this moto.
In moto two, Robin snagged the holeshot once again with Stewart and Heppner behind him. Something must have happened to Jake Stewart and Blake Halstead because I lost track of them (which is easy to do with a track the size of Spring Creek). Meanwhile, Kaleb Dekeyrel picked off the competition until he worked his way up to the number two spot. Jerry Robin took the win, Dekeyrel second and Nolan Heppner third.
65cc (Ages 7-9)
Hunter Teichrib grabbed the holeshot with Benjamin Adamson and Grant Hecht flying behind him. It's amazing how fast these little guys fly around that track! Teichrib took the win in moto one, with Hecht second and Adamson third.
In the second moto, you should have seen Adamson and Teichrib hit the holeshot together. Then Adamson shot ahead and Teichrib was literally right on his fender! Wow, can you imagine what kind of action these two will be showing us in a few years!
In this moto, Adamson took the win, Hecht second and Teichrib third.
85cc (Ages 12-15)
In moto one, Cody Breeden pulled the holeshot with Jeremy Martin, Zach Williams and Cody Ockenga tailing him. Martin didn't waste time taking over the lead with Jesse Wentland moving into second place and Breeden in third. These boys ride fast and furious so mistakes will cost you, because before you know it, someone will blow right by you. Having a son that rides this class, we see the learning curve and believe me he learns something new every time he is out on that track! It's great experience and a lot of fun! There was some battling going on between Jesse Wentland and Zach Williams but the final results in this moto were Martin taking the win, Williams second and Wentland third.
In moto two it looked like Jeremy Juliot snagged the holeshot with Wentland in second and Martin in third. Once again, Martin took over the lead followed by Wentland and Williams. Martin took the win, Wentland second and Williams third. Great racing!
85cc (Ages 9-11)
Taylor Witt is the man to beat in this class. He hits the track, grabs the holeshot and doesn't look back. In moto one, Brody Penman was chasing down Witt and Jake Stewart and Henry Miller were behind him. Witt took the win, Penman second and Miller third.
In moto two, once again Taylor Witt took the holeshot. This time Jake Stewart was chasing him with Brody Penman and Henry Miller on his tail. Stewart went down and the final result in this moto was Witt taking the win, Penman second and Miller third.

Great weekend at Spring Creek Mx Park! Saturday was rainy on and off, but practices moved forward and the track continued to be groomed. By the afternoon, the rain let up and the track was pretty awesome. The practice gates filled up and racers began their prep work for Sunday.
It didn't take long for word to get out of the new Basketball Court and Skatepark at Spring Creek! So, guess what?! If you think you didn't see your kids before with all the fun to be had, you are certain not to see them now. Kids simply have too much fun to choose from when they are NOT racing motocross They have the Creek to swim and splash in, the BMX track, the new Swing Set and now the new Basketball Court and Skatepark!
What about us parents?! We deserve a little fun, don't we?! Oh, yeah, the kids are gone........sorry, thank you very much, John and Greta!!!!
More weekend coverage to come......

Just between you and me, I think that when God made boys He pre-programmed them to love dirt. It's the only way I can explain the magnetic attraction my boys have to dirt. No matter where we go they'll find it. Doesn't need to be much, even a small little mound will do. My three year old just loves to lie in it and push his trucks around. Or, better yet, fill my flower beds with water and jump in! So, when we arrived at Midway MX Park last Saturday, it didn't take him long to find the pee wee track and lots of dirt to play in. Oh, and that's where all the other boys were, too!
This was round 3 of Midway Mx's Survivor Series and I can't imagine a more fitting combination than Father's Day and Motocross Racing, so how could it not be an awesome weekend! Especially when you throw in beautiful weather! Midway is a fast track with some nice jumps - the kids had a blast. It gets dry, but when it is groomed, it's perfect. Cindy and Jack helped the Dad's celebrate Father's Day with prizes and chocolate chip cookies. The racers were treated to Dairy Queen coupons, a perfect treat after a day of racing.
50cc
Kaleb Carmen, #201 was rock'n on his KTM, taking the win in the Micro Multispeed 4-8 class. Jaxon Opitz, #88 won our Heart and Spirit award for the day by getting back on the bike after a heart wrenching crash (as you'll see on the video). Jaxon pulled the holeshot and was riding in the lead until his rear end spun out and he went down. He was down but far from out! He jumped back on the bike and took off like a shot and managed to pull a second place finish! This is why I love motocross - the kids are so amazing! Congrats Jaxon! Too bad school is out for summer because that would be a great story to tell your friends at school! Deuce Peplinski, #102 rounded off the top three in this class. Great racing guys!
85cc 9-12
The racers in the youth classes are fast and fun to watch, but what usually gets my attention is when there is either a battle between racers, or a racer has to overcome an unexpected obstacle. An obstacle can be any number of things like crashing or tipping the bike in a turn. It can be another racer who happens to go down right in front of you or it can be problems out of the gate. No matter what it happens to be, it's interesting to watch how racers react. Nine out of ten times it lights a fire in them and that's when you see what these kids are made of. And, that's exactly what happened to Sawyer Brownlee, #34 in the second moto of this class. Sawyer won the first moto and is a very smooth rider. In the second moto, he was still on the gate when everyone else had already checked out. That's when his fire was lit because once he was out of the gate he was flying, passing riders right and left until he finished in fourth place. Great racing, Sawyer!
Henry Miller, #292 took the win in the second moto and the overall win. Brody Penman, #434, took second in both motos.
85cc 12-15
Jesse Wentland, #26 and Zachary Williams, #276 were both flying on their Suzuki machines. These two are excellent riders and smokin fast! Jesse took the overall win with a 2:1 finish and Zach, second with a 1:2 finish. Can't wait to see these guys race again.
Congrats to all the racers!
