Racing a harescramble! By AirTimeRacing | Sun Sep 30, 2007 at 06:42:47 PM EST Well, we haven't raced a harescramble in a long time. Somewhere around five years if I remember correctly. There was a lot of talk on a message board about the "really" fast kids that run these events, so we were a little nervous coming into this race. We had no idea on what to expect as far as speed, laps, how much gas will we use...???
Lots of questions, with not a lot of support from anyone. It is very uncharacteristic of Cody to fidgit before a moto, but he was! You wouldn't have been able to shove a pin up his butt with a sledgehammer!! LOL

Anyway we pulled up to the line for our race and there were a lot of 85cc, 65cc and women racing this class. The 85cc bikes got the advantage and lined up in the front row, followed by the 65cc bikes and then women.

The race was one hour long and was ran on a two mile course through the woods, clay supercross track and some trails. None of these kids got to ride the track beforehand, so it was learn as you go.
Cody got the holeshot (dead engine start) and was off!
With lap times running right at about five minutes for Cody, he was able to pull away quiclkly from the rest of the group. By the second lap he had put quite a distance between himself and second place. It was becoming obvious that Cody could possibly win this thing! Skip to lap number nine!
By now it was very apparent that Cody was on a mission. He had lapped everyone up to forth place and was closing in on the third place guy. He found him and also found his way around him by lap eleven. If he would have had one more lap, it would have been the entire field.

It was a super day of racing and we can't wait to do another one of these events soon! On a side note: A fellow rider snapped a pic of Cody in the woods and I posted it on this site. I call it "Guiding Light" and when you look at it, you will understand! It has to be one of my favorite pics ever taken of Cody...(besides the ones that John takes, of course:) ) See ya at the races!
